iOS 16.1 will release to the public next week and so Apple is now inviting developers to submit apps supporting the new Live Activities feature.
Live Activities are a key feature of iOS 16 and enable applications to display real-time information on the Lock Screen (or the ‘Dynamic Island’ for the new iPhone Pro devices).
Such information could include live scores for ongoing sports games, the status of takeaway orders, or the progress of a taxi ride:
A number of Apple’s partners have announced support for the Live Activities API including Uber, Starbucks, and Lyft.
Developers that are interested in supporting Live Activities are now welcome to submit their apps ahead of iOS 16.1 going live next week. In addition, developers can also submit apps for macOS Ventura which packs the new Metal 3 API and enhanced continuity features.
To submit app updates for Apple’s latest operating systems, developers will require the latest version of Xcode.
