Few services have become more synonymous with the pandemic than Zoom, and now it’s coming to other apps with the launch of its Video SDK.
Zoom claims the SDK will enable developers to leverage the “scale-ready performance” of the communications platform to create new experiences for their users.
Zeus Kerravala, Principal Analyst at ZK Research, commented:
“Video usage is at an all-time high. The next wave of video-based experiences will be driven by embedding video directly into business and consumer applications that seamlessly improve workflows and enhance social interaction.
Zoom’s Video SDKs are easy to work with, and enable nimble development of fully customisable video-based applications.”
The launch of the Video SDK enables support for Zoom’s full unified communications platform—which also includes text chat, audio, and interactive features.
Some of the types of apps Zoom suggests its new SDK could be used for include social, gaming, and retail.
Lingmo is one company already making use of Zoom’s Video SDK. The cloud-based AI translation service provides real-time translations between meeting participants using Zoom’s video infrastructure.
Danny May, CEO and Co-Founder of Lingmo International, said:
“Zoom’s fully customisable Video SDK was a good fit for us because it worked seamlessly with our technology and enabled us to assist enterprise customers in a new way.
Zoom’s Video SDK allowed us to accelerate the development of our solution, and gave us the flexibility to enhance our product offering for our customers.”
The launch of the Video SDK helps to complete Zoom’s wider Developer Platform which includes:
- APIs
- SDKs
- Chatbots
- Webhooks
- Distribution for applications & integrations
Zoom says the latest release provides deeper insights into the performance and usage of their applications on the Zoom App Marketplace—including user and account level subscription counts, active user and active account metrics, API usage volumes, and more.
Developers wanting to get started with the new Video SDK can do so with no charge for up to 10,000 session minutes per month. After that, usage is charged on a per minute basis. An annual package of 30,000 minutes per month is available for $1000/year.
