The Venom Foundation has joined forces with DoraHacks, Developer DAO, and Hacken to initiate its premier virtual hackathon.
This groundbreaking event is designed to provide developers with the essential tools and resources to build on the cutting-edge Venom blockchain.
With registrations commencing on April 27th, 2023, the hackathon is scheduled to launch on May 8th, 2023.
Venom’s Testnet Launch: A Catalyst for Innovation and Community Building
The hackathon announcement follows the successful launch of Venom’s testnet earlier this week. This critical development invites a fresh wave of users and developers into the ecosystem. The testnet allows developers to test and refine dApps and blockchain protocols while offering users a firsthand experience of these decentralized applications.
The primary objective of the testnet is to foster innovation and community development within the ecosystem, paving the way for more significant events like the upcoming hackathon.
Venom’s organizing partner for the hackathon is DoraHacks, the esteemed global hackathon organizer and a highly active Web3 developer incentive platform. In addition, Developer DAO and Hacken contribute to the event by providing marketing and incentives support.
Hackathon Timeline: Registration, Project Submission, and Evaluation
Developers can submit their applications as individuals and teams after the opening ceremony. However, participants are required to submit their projects before June 10th, 2023.
Upon completion of project submissions, a panel of expert judges, including Peter Knez, ex-CIO of Blackrock, and David Atkinson, the co-founder of Holochain, will evaluate the entries.
Christopher Louis Tsu, CTO of Venom Technology and one of the judges, expressed his enthusiasm: “We’re thrilled to host this hackathon, as it will be a catalyst for innovation and creativity within the Venom ecosystem. The event will allow us to expand our library of decentralized applications and attract and grow a talented pool of developers. This is a unique opportunity for developers and builders to drive forward the decentralized ecosystem and push the boundaries of what is possible.”
Participants can develop a project based on three distinct tracks:
- Web3, NFTs, and Gaming
- DeFi and Stablecoins
- Tools and Infrastructure
Over five weeks, participants’ skills and ingenuity will be tested in areas such as soulbound tokens, stablecoins, and crypto-wallets.
Hackathon Agenda: Workshops, Ceremonies, and Prizes
The hackathon will commence with an opening ceremony on May 8th, followed by a series of workshops distributed over several days. These workshops, released throughout the hackathon, will cover crucial topics such as creating a smart contract, designing a non-fungible TIP-4 token, and connecting a dApp UI to Venom.
The hackathon will conclude with an awards ceremony on June 17th, 2023. The top three winners from each category will be announced, with first-place winners receiving $30,000 each.
Additionally, the first-place winners in all three categories will obtain a free security audit from Hacken, sponsored by Venom.
Finally, honorary mentions will be awarded to three teams in each category, each earning $3,000. The total prize pool for the hackathon is $225,000, which comprises the combined value of cash prizes, security audits, and other incentives.
